Cat timbal adalah cat yang memiliki kandungan timbal (rumus kimia: Pb). Senyawa timbal yang paling umum dalam cat adalah timbal(II) kromat (PbCrO4, "kuning krom"), timbal(II,IV) oksida, (Pb3O4, "timbal merah"), dan timbal(II) karbonat (PbCO3, "timbal putih").[1]



Bahaya penggunaan |


Banyak negara maju sudah melarang atau membatasi penggunaan bahan-bahan ini karena bahaya racun timbal, namun di negara berkembang seperti Indonesia, India dan Tiongkok, cat yang mengandung timbal masih banyak dijual. Menurut laporan yang dikeluarkan LSM BaliFokus dan INEP pada 2013, lebih dari tiga perempat sampel cat yang dijual di Indonesia memiliki kadar di atas 90 ppm (bagian per sejuta), ambang yang di Amerika Serikat sudah dilarang dijual. Laporan yang sama bahkan menulis sekitar sepertiga sampel memiliki kadar diatas 10.000 ppm, yang termasuk dalam kategori "sangat berbahaya".[2]
